I currently live in Long Beach; my parents live near Mission Viejo. Thankfully neither of us are directly affected by these current fires, though my family and I have been under evacuation order before. The air quality here has been terrible though today the winds have cleared it for a moment. Two people I follow on social media lost their homes in Altadena, and a friend of mine is under evacuation order in Encino. I’m hoping the Palisades Fire does not end up reaching that far but we’re in for a windy week, and rainfall has been dismal this year so far. I’ve seen essentially no rain where I am since last spring.
The scenes from Altadena and Pacific Palisades have been apocalyptic. Not a propitious start to the year. 🙁
