So I just entered second year and started with my Ob-Gyn clinical posting. Today, during rounds, our HOD casually announced that no one would be allowed inside the OT tomorrow without scrubs. No prior notice, no heads-up. Just a deadline. I swear I was in full-on panic mode.
On a senior’s suggestion, I quickly ordered a pair of female scrubs from Lintex. They had exactly what we needed, green scrubs for women, the only color UGs are allowed to wear. They were delivered the same day (bless them), fit well, and I was in OT the next morning without trouble.
The only downside? We were indistinguishable from the nursing UGs. Apparently, this is intentional. So, our OT matron hates med students, and this made sure we all got yelled at equally. Classic.
Fast forward to postgrad: since we were the COVID batch (2020), scrubs became the norm. Different colors for different specialties. We girls in the department made female scrubs our unofficial uniform; it saved time deciding what to wear, and the pockets were everything.
Now as the sole Senior Resident, I still live in scrubs. Lintex is still my go-to. So OP, all the best! Make sure you check color rules, ask seniors (right ones), and pick a color that’s easy on the eyes. And yes, get scrubs. You’ll thank yourself later.
