I have a problem—I like a guy. He’s super handsome and funny, but the thing is, I’ve only talked to him a few times. On Friday, I learned that his friends think he likes a girl in his class, so I was pretty disappointed. Then, suddenly, I was with my friends, and he came over, sat next to me, and started talking. He kept looking at me, and every time I talked to his friend, he would talk to me. We got into some funny conversations, and at one point, he said, “You and me, hahaha, in my room,” and I laughed. Then he really wanted to go outside to sit on a bench, and the only free space was next to him, so I sat down. He was on his phone, but whenever I talked to him, he stopped using it. At some point, I said that beauty is temporary, and he replied, saying he’s always beautiful. I said, “Well, when you’re old, you won’t be that handsome anymore,” and he said, “So, you’re saying I’m handsome?” and I laughed and said no. Then, at one point, he threw a small rock at my temple, laughed, stood up, and apologized while touching my temple and holding my shoulders, asking if I was really okay. Another time, he took my phone, and when I took it back, our hands touched. We were really close, and I got embarrassed, so I pulled back. Eventually, I had to leave, so I told him I was going, and he said, “Wait, are you really leaving?” Even when I was talking, he was looking at me, teasing me. What do you think this means?

Alyzee Why not talk to him directly about it? Maybe he’s just someone who likes to flirt and tease in general (only you know the answer) or maybe he has feelings for you and isn’t afraid to make the first move. Maybe you’re having second thoughts, but what’s the risk of talking to him about it? If you don’t do anything, you might regret it for a long time.

Go sit with him at lunch. Talk about your classes, see which ones he likes, might be something you have in common. If he’s good at science and you’re not, ask him for help. If you like sports, ask if he does and his favorite team. There are many ways you can find common ground to talk about, and perhaps become friends to start. I am pretty shy but that’s how I met my first bf
