It does seem that talk of circumcision has become a debate. What a surprise?

It’s a bold assertion to say that parents who have their sons circumcised either don’t love them, or love them less.
There do seem to be many parents who are quite unaware that most of the world does not circumcise newborns and that most of those newborns grow up to be boys and men just fine and that for those who do have a problem, for example with phimosis, there are other interventions other than circumcision. Even in the more extreme cases where circumcision is the only solution, at least there is then a medical justification. How much those parents should be blamed, though, is something to debate. Those of outside the USA do marvel at how insular the USA seems to be and how unaware of what happens in the rest of the world they are. But then Europeans probably don’t understand much of what goes on in the far east. Countries are much more concerned with their own history and customs than giving people a useful overview of the world as a whole.
But then that are those who are presented with the evidence and still think “It’s what we’ve always done” should prevail over logic. But who should people trust? Someone might argue that they have presented me with evidence to back up their anti-vax stance while I stick steadfastly to the view that vaccines are one of the big life savers of modern medicine because the institutions I trust advocate for vaccination and there are figures that show the benefit. Americans should be able to trust their medical profession but it seems they can’t. Either the medics are also blissfully unaware of how males thrive in the rest of the world without being circumcised and the advantages in sensitivity some claim for being uncut, or they have a way of making money they are reluctant to give up. The healthcare system in the USA is unique within the developed world in that, for a hospital or other provider, treatment is a profit. Under universal healthcare, as implemented in the rest of the developed world, it is a cost so, while treatment is freely given, it isn’t done when there isn’t a clear benefit.
In Scandinavia, they emphasise parents’ duty of care to their children, rather than rights over those children. Performing body altering, unnecessary surgery on a child would be consider a violation of that child’s right to the integrity of their own body! I think I side with them.
