Ok, I live in the UK and the case has been in the news here. The court case relates specifically to the 2010 Equality Act and says that, in that specific act, the term woman does not include trans women; that woman is referring to biological sex. The rationale given for the decision was that other parts of the the act deal specifically with equality of opportunity for, and discrimination against, trans people.
So the first thing to note is that this does not mean that in every piece of UK legislation, a trans women will be considered to be a man. There maybe other legal situations in which a trans woman may be taken as being a woman.
It is widely assumed, I hope correctly, that this ends the right of a trans woman to gain access to female-only spaces, including ladies’ toilets but, as far as I know, it does not place any obligation on anyone to enforce the restriction, though, should they choose to, trans women now have no-one to appeal to.
It also leaves sports governing bodies to set their own rules as to who should compete in each category.
