Good intellectual joke, Jade. To get the joke you have to know a bit of about European history. Prior to 1918 there was an Austro-Hungarian Empire rulled my the Austrian Emperor, Franz Joseph. But after 1918, at the end of World War I, the Empire was split up. Austria and and Hungary became independent nations.. Grandpa had to have been born before 1918 in ordser to ask that question in the joke.
